The Premise:

Your character (Pirate, Imperial Soldier, Islander, or other Passenger) is the lone survivor of a shipwreck, and has survived - alone - for several years. Build a small rock, island, or outpost and show how your character has lived their life as a castaway!

The Rules:

This contest begins on September 1, 2008, and ends promptly on October 12, 2008, at 11:59 PM, Eastern Standard Time. Entries can be posted starting on September 1st. A separate forum thread will be created for your Contest entries; do not post them in this thread!

  • Build a new Pirate-themed MOC (nothing displayed publicly or online before September 1, 2008).

  • MOCs are limited to a maximum of 32 x 32 studs. No part of the MOC should extend beyond those dimensions.

  • There is no height restriction.

  • There is no piece restriction.

  • Your MOC may feature only ONE minifig - hereby known as "the Castaway".

  • You are allowed to use skeletons, but not as "the Castaway".

  • Animals (parrots, sharks, etc.) do not count as minifigs, but you are limited to a maximum of 8.

  • You may enter up to two entries.

  • You may only win one prize.

  • LDraw images are acceptable but these entries must use readily available pieces, not large quantities of rare pieces, colors, or figures.

  • No clone-brand parts, custom parts/decals, or modified parts, please. There are plenty of LEGO elements to choose from.

Entries to the Castaway Contest will be made by posting a link (and one thumbnail image) to your entry gallery in the forthcoming contest entry thread, and the link should be to a folder that contains no more than THREE (3) photos of your entry. Entry photos must be in JPG format (no BMP files accepted), and cannot exceed 600x800 pixels in size (in either orientation).

The Booty:

Prizes will be awarded to the two best entries, as judged by the ForbiddenCove staff. These are complete, used LEGO sets with instructions, in very good condition.

First Prize: LEGO Pirate set # 6265 - Sabre Island

Second Prize: LEGO Pirate set # 6260- Shipwreck Island

If you have any questions, please post them in this thread. (Again, no MOCs!)

I actually have only one pirate minifig, it's the perfect contest for me.

This sounds awesome- the restriction of only one minifig is a nice twist!

For clarification, presumably starfish are inluded in animals too? Additionally, are brick-built animals okay or do they come under the limit of eight as well as the pre-fab animals?

Brick built animals would also come under the limit of 8. We want the best creations to win and not whoever has the most light blue parrots ;)

a) Does the single minifig restriction apply to heads/hands e.t.c. used seperately? Would the heads have to be non-human faces?
b) Would a rotting body be allowed alongside the castaway?
c) Can the skeletons be animate?

What's the ruling on cutting string and pnuematic tubing?

I soon realised afterwards just how small a 32x32 base is. I think i'd struggle trying to get the whole eight animals included anyway!
