Weekly Set Review: Bounty Boat

Postby architect on Sun Feb 07, 2010 10:21 pm

Join the weekly Forbidden Cove set review discussion. Please post your opinions on the set play ability, piece selection, design, etc. Which sets stand up to our broadside of critique and which ones sink in shame!

This week’s set is 6247 Bounty Boat.

Bounty Boat was released in 1992 for the Imperial Guards. Two Imperial soldiers force a pirate to row their boat and recover buried treasure. A treasure chest, pickaxe, shovel, flag, and weapons are included.

Not many sets tell a story, but this one hints of an epic tale and betrayal, greed and salvation...
Perhaps I am exagerating slightly, but an inquisitive mind can not help but to wonder what series of events took place for this unfortunate swab to end up on the business end of a pair of oars at pistol point.

This set would be a great army pack, if one didn't mind a bilge load of row boats. I always had a greater fondness for the "red coats" though, and besides the red rowboat there is a stack on useful minifig utensils and accessories included in this set.

That sailor is an unlucky sap. He was likely digging up a treasure when two enterprising soldiers cornered him, stole the treasure, and then forced him to help them transport it.

I agree that a few copies of this set would be good for army building. There is a limit to the number of rowboats one needs.

Or, more likely, he is just a sailor onboard which ever vessel this boat is from. A sailor who by chance has a missing eye. A fine a minifigure set as any.

It looks like a fine set, except for the red boat. How realistic are red boats to the time period? Now I know realistic isn't necessarily what we are going for here, but a red boat? If I had access to red paint, I'm not so sure I'd waste it on painting a dingy. But I digress, I do like the figs in this set. And yes, I could see it as a nice army building set. What would I do with multiple red boats? Why stage and invasion of course.

A very nice liitle set. Three figs, all of which are useful, enough weapons for all of them, and as a person who's only matching dingys are dark blue, another red one would be quite welcome.

A neat little army builder set, and an interesting (hinted at) backstory for sure.

It's my understanding that the paint was used to keep the wooden boats from rotting as quickly. :)
I have plans for the future, guess they're futuristic plans...

I had this set, but I wanted last week's Raft set instead. :(

The figs would row to an island and burry the treasure, row to the middle of the carpet and then return again to dig it up. I think it's a pretty useless set, with very limited appeal. :?

Nothing special about this one. I already own many little boat and theres only 3 minifig in this set so that doesnt make it a really good army builder. And we can't talk about design here because everything is pre-molded. (The boat, minifig ). I only give it a 2.5.
