Petition to keep LEGO Pirates

Hi fellow Lego Pirates Fans,

Sadly the LEGO Ambassadors have been informed that the Pirates line will be discontinued by mid 2010. TLG certainly could bring back the line in the future. I believe this is a mistake. The PIrates theme (1989-1997, 2009-2010) is a core line popular among children and adults. Please post your opinions regarding keeping the line active and I will pass this feedback to the appropriate people. Thanks.

This indeed makes me sad, maybe a little upset, but mostly very disappointed.

There is much that can be done with a pirates line that hasn't been done. I'm not talking the addition of islanders. There are two areas in much need: merchants and towns (both pirate and civilian). You need a place for the pirates to attack, pillage and in other words do their pirate things. You need a place for the pirates to inhabit when not on land.

There is very much that still can be done. There are many ideas. And to under-estimate what children are interested in by eliminating the pirates line, just seems to be a mistake. I'm a female and I played pirates growing up. My nephews are 5 and 9, they ADORE the pirate line. They asked me to get them the ship, but they want different ships so they can be different.

Please...reconsider. If you need ideas...I have them! We have them! We pirates fans may not be as loud as other fans. But we are many more in number than most realize.

Consider this my signature on this petition.

Consider this my request for additional pirate sets:

Though, since it says Mid-2010, I wonder if that means an additional run of new sets in early 2010...

Well I will certainally sign this, but I fear it may do little good.

I know, I know, stop being pessimistic.

But let me explain my thinking. See I have noticed a couple things from the relaunch of the theme. A) No sets to speak of were released this year. B) The overall design and quality of the sets give me the general impression of a short lived thing. C) Pirates really haven't been all that popular in their relaunch. Comparatively speaking. Compare, if you will, Pirates to Power Miners. I seriously suspect that in general, Power Miners were the more popular. There certainally seemed more, shall we say, global hype for it. Likewise, Pirates just didn't look all that cool. Their boxes, for example were a kinda washed out blue and tan. Compare that to the Green and black of the power miners. I'm just saying.

Anyway, all this has given me the general impression that Pirates were not going to be around very long. That it was a one time, one year deal, with nothing more planned.

That being said! I would more than love it if my fears were proven unfounded. And I would love to see some more pirates.

SO!

Signed!

Dan

Walk the plank ye scurvy dogs! (signed)

Really sad news and on my first post. It was a great source of parts for every theme that I build in. I will miss new sets. Now I will have to spend more money on LEGO pirates this fall.

Yar! The other themes be consigned to the locker.

*edit*

Is there any word on a new PotC movie? Just trying to find a reason other than " we decided" from LEGO.

Signed.

In the nice place in my head, this is because in 2011 we are going to get LEGO Pirates of the Carribean. Licensed Pirates are better than no Pirates at all, and if you think about the quality of the Indy sets and figs, and the way that the Prince of Persia stuff is looking, licensed Pirates could be brilliant.

In the bad place in my head, it's because not enough people bought the stuff and kids today think pirates are lame.

Steve Witt of the LEGO Community Team asked that we post this update:

Pirates isn’t gone, its on hiatus like every other line that isn’t one of our primary themes:

CASTLE, SPACE, and CITY

Pirates isn’t going away, it’s just not going to be a constant theme. It’s going to phase in and out just like every other theme that isn’t one of those three… I just wanted to reassure you guys that pirates isn’t disappearing. Just taking a break. :-)

I was actually given to understand (though I can't remember where from) that the Pirates line was selling pretty well. What I'm hoping was that TLC wasn't expecting it to be so popular and so didn't plan on a 2010 line, but since it was (if it was) will continue the line in 2011. Yes, continue the line, not replace it with a Pirates IV license - although, of course, a pirate movie in theaters will definitely make it even more attractive to the general public.

Oh, yes, consider this petition signed by me. :)
